CLASSIFICATION Example
Adelies are a type of penguin that do not fly. They are also mammals and their scientific name is pygogcelis. They are fluffy due to the fact that they have a layer of protection. In addition, they live in coastal Antarctica and migrate during the winter.

An example of an “A” grade paragraph

Adelies and their Diets:
Adelie penguins have a small range of food that they eat, however their diet is being heavily impacted by humans. Adelies mainly eat krill and fish, hunting 3 times a week. The females do most of the hunting and they find their food close to where their nests are located. However, during winter, Adelies migrate thousands of kilometres in search of food. The problem lately has been that humans are overfishing which has meant that Adelies have less to eat. In fact, since 2005, there has been a reduction in Adelies due to less fish in the Antarctic according to Time magazine.

·                     2nd Chime: Find three areas, words or sentences that can be improved (perhaps they don't make sense or it could be improved). You will need to circle these areas and discuss how they can be improved.

  • T asks students to write down what they have learnt about the interview process so far.
  • Ss will do the lesson outside. All i pads are to be taken outside.
  • Explain to students that they need to go onto the blog on the writing page. Please do the same with them and run through the tasks with them:
  • TASK 1: Go to the following website in pairs. They must stay in the infants playground and find somewhere quiet for them to work in. Kane and Jeremy are not to work together. http://jobsearch.about.com/od/teenjobinterviews/qt/teeninterview.htm
  • Using the three questions you looked at from last lesson, have your partner record you and say your answer while trying to maintain eye contact with the camera to the best of your ability. Swap when you have finished saying your answers and allow your partner to do the same.
  • When you have both been “interviewed”, watch the recording back (use connectors) and then discuss how it could be improved. Write down 3-5 things you did well and 2 areas you could improve. Do the same thing for your partner.
  • Discuss how you could improve and then try doing a completely new question. Read through the sample answer and then relate it to McDonalds and then record it.
  • Come together with the teacher when there is about 10 minutes to go and discuss what was learnt.

Ss ask one another 5 of the questions found on the site above and record one another in relation to McDonalds. After they swap, they have a chance to ask about a profession of their own that they would like to get involved in. They write down what they have learnt.

Mr White

Directing Manager

Plumber to the Rescue

2 - 377 Kent Street

Sydney

Dear [name of contact]

In the first paragraph you should briefly explain who you are and why you are writing to them. Name the position you are applying for and where you saw the position advertised. While it’s fine to start this paragraph with ‘I’, try not to start every paragraph in the same way.  Never forget to mention which job you’re applying for.

Explain why you think you are qualified for the position, emphasising how your previous experience (if applicable) and transferable skills make you ideal for the role. Mention your most important qualifications (for example ‘I have just completed the Higher School Certificate at St Andrews College’) and what you think you would bring to the company. If the job advertisement lists selection criteria, this is the place to say how your skills and experience meet the criteria they’re looking for.  If a job has asked that you address selection criteria separately, this can go in a separate document.

In the third paragraph, explain why you would like to work for this particular company, showing that you have done research regarding the position.  Companies want to know that you’re interested in them and understand what they do, and what they want from their employees. You may be applying for hundreds of different jobs but you need to make each prospective employer think that their job is the only one you want.

Lastly, politely request that they consider your application, conveying your appreciation for their time. Make sure you include, for example ‘if you require any further information, do not hesitate to contact me on 0414****** or smith@hotmail.com’. Being polite and enthusiastic will help to create an overall good impression.

Yours sincerely
